How long do lapwing eggs take to hatch, and how long until the chicks fledge?

Lapwing eggs are usually incubated for 25–34 days. After hatching, the usual fledging period is 35–40 days.

The chicks hatch covered in down and are precocial: they leave the nest soon after hatching and feed themselves while the adults watch over them. So the family spends more than a month on the ground between hatching and the young being able to fly. The adults stay alert through that whole time and give alarm calls and mob intruders near their young.
