How many eggs does a magpie lay, and how many broods does it raise?
A typical Eurasian magpie clutch has five or six eggs. There is usually one brood a season.
Each egg measures roughly 34 × 24 mm and weighs about 10 g. Magpies commonly start breeding at around two years old.
The eggs are laid in the magpie's large stick nest, which often has a domed roof. These figures describe typical magpie biology. They are not a fixed timetable for every pair breeding in Latvia, where the magpie is a widespread year-round resident.
