How long do young magpies stay in the nest before they fledge?
Young magpies normally stay in the nest for about 26 to 31 days after hatching. By then they have grown from naked, helpless nestlings into birds that can leave the nest.
Fledging is one stage of development. It does not end parental care straight away, and the parents keep looking after the young after they leave. A recently fledged magpie can look clumsier than the adults. That is normal at this age.
