How long do magpie eggs take to hatch, and who incubates them?
The female incubates the eggs for about 20 days. The chicks hatch naked and dependent, so they rely completely on their parents at first. They stay in the domed stick nest for roughly another month before they fledge.
These are typical figures for the species. Individual pairs, including those in Latvia, will not all keep exactly to this timetable.
