How many eggs does a gabralker lay, and how long until the chicks leave the nest?

The usual clutch is three eggs. They are pale grey-green with sparse brown marks, mostly near the broader end. Both adults take turns incubating for 17–19 days. The sitting bird leaves the nest heading downstream and comes back from upstream, so it uses different routes in and out.

The chicks hatch with sparse dark down and stay in the nest for about 23–26 days. Once they leave, the brood stays close to root cover for about two weeks while the adults keep feeding them. Pairs usually raise one brood a year. If an early attempt fails, they may lay a replacement clutch.
