How big is a gabralker?
The gabralker is a compact bird. An adult measures 19โ22 cm from the bill to the end of the longest tail feather and weighs 48โ63 g. Its wingspan is about 29โ33 cm.
Much of that length comes from the three elongated tail feathers, which end in broad, spoon-shaped tips. The bill is short, dark and slightly flattened near the tip. That shape lets the bird lift flakes of bark without turning its whole head sideways, which suits the way it feeds among exposed roots and damp leaf litter along the riverbank.
