How deep can puffins dive?

Atlantic puffins can dive to roughly 60 m, but they usually feed at shallower depths. The maximum diving depth is not the depth of every feeding trip.

Underwater, a puffin chases small fish using its wings for propulsion and its feet for steering. Its prey includes sand eels, sprats, capelin and young herring. This makes it a capable underwater hunter, even though its short wings and rapid wingbeats make flying in the air look like hard work.
