How many eggs does a waxwing lay, and how long are they incubated?
The BTO gives five eggs as a typical clutch, usually between four and six. Each egg is about 24 × 18 mm and weighs roughly 3.8 g. The female incubates them for about 13–14 days.
The usual pattern is one brood a year, and waxwings can start breeding at around one year old.
These are reference figures for the species as a whole. They are not evidence that waxwings nest regularly in Latvia, where the bird is mainly an autumn and winter visitor.
