How many eggs does a common redshank lay?
The common redshank usually lays four eggs. Each egg is about 45 × 31 mm and weighs around 22 g. Both parents take turns incubating.
Redshanks nest on the ground among vegetation, where taller plants hide the nest. One brood a year is usual. Birds can start breeding at about one year old.
If you are near a nest, the adults will usually let you know with sharp, piping alarm calls, often from a post, rock or other raised perch. Persistent alarm calling is a signal to move away, not a hint for finding the nest.
