How long do redshank eggs take to hatch, and when do the chicks fledge?

According to BTO figures, common redshank eggs are typically incubated for about 24 days, and both sexes share the incubation. The young fledge 25–35 days after hatching.

The chicks hatch covered in down and can move about straight away, so they leave the nest soon and feed in nearby wet, open areas while the adults keep watch. A pair usually raises one brood a season, and redshanks can begin breeding at about one year old.

Adults stay very watchful at this stage and will alarm-call loudly at anyone who comes near. Where you hear persistent calling, it is best to move away.
